Trail content is becoming the new king!

Since the last round of updates by Google, more emphasis has been placed on content. Although there's no doubt that back links are still very important they must now be complemented with good quality content, or as we like to call it trail content. We have been advising all clients to add trail content within their first and quarterly reports for about the last 2 years and that's now really paying off!

What is trail content?

Trail content is a virtual depth of knowledge, it's a way of creating pages of text based information for each of your search terms with a link to each one of these pages from your home page. It creates the perception of depth of content to the search engines and therefore improves your relevance score.

How to create trail content

It’s easy and purely text based. For example, one of our clients is called www.tvwhenaway.co.uk. One of their search terms is “Watch iPlayer Outside the UK”, they have therefore created a page on their website called “Watch iPlayer Outside the UK” with some general content on it. It also needs to have a page title that matches the search term.

Then they’ve added a link to this page from the most relevant pages on their website.

This may not be possible for all of your search terms, but where you have a search term that you could write some content about, it can be of great benefit.

As you can see from our example, they are now appearing on page one of Google for this search term.

Add revenue by reselling our digital marketing products

I wanted to cover in this article how well web designers and entrepreneurs are doing by reselling our unique white label reseller product. There are some key factors as to why our reseller product is proving such a good fit:

1.

All that’s left to you is pass the report on to your client. You can download your reports as a PDF or HTML. Meaning you are able to edit / add to your reports if you wish too before you send them over to your client.

2.
Reseller control panel. You control all of your SEO campaigns within one log in. You can search for campaigns, download all reports, add optional products and set up white label control panel access.

3.
White label control panel. We give you the option of giving your clients access to a white label control panel. You just send your clients to the URL www.seo-control-panel.com with the log in details that you set within your reseller control panel

4.
Discount off our already market low price. Because of our huge investment in streamlining the process of SEO we have been able to lower the cost of proving a high quality SEO. We charge just £49.99 per quarter, per SEO campaign, and the best bit? You get a further 30% recurring discount off each SEO campaign. Ranking checker warning!

We’ve been noticing over the last few months an increasing trend of ranking checkers giving incorrect results.

Clients have been contacting us thinking that they’re ranking has dropped off and some that have even been told that their site has been de-indexed.

After investigation we quickly established that their ranking had not moved or in most cases had actually improved. The way we checked this was to simply perform a manual ranking check.

We have for over a year now not reported on ranking. This was for two reasons. Firstly, due to our price point we are not able to manually check rankings for all of our clients and secondly, it’s good practice for clients to check their ranking independently.

So why are ranking checkers not accurate?

To answer this first we have to address how they work. When you type in a search term against a URL a ranking checker will ping the search engines, doing automatically what we all do manually. It will search page 1, page 2, page 3 and so on until it locates your listing and then when it finds your listing it will report back to you. So what’s the problem? The issue is twofold:

1. Google do not like this practice as it creates additional bandwidth requirements across their network. So, if they see an IP address doing it a lot they may block it for a period of time from searching Google. This is when a ranking checker may report that a URL is not indexed, leading people to think they have been de-indexed when they have not.

2. Google are trying more and more to tailor search results based on an individual users browsing habits. So, if you are searching for the same search term continuously but not clicking on any links Google will presume that you’re not finding what you want, then on future searches it will mix up the search results in order to try and connect you with what you are looking for. This results in users thinking their site has dropped in ranking. Clearing your cache before each ranking check will resolve this.

So, what is the solution?

If you still want to use an automatic checker our advice would be to perform a maximum of one ranking check per week making sure you clear your cache beforehand. Otherwise, our suggestion to see true results is to clear your cache and then perform a manual check.
I hope you have found this helpful!

5 SEO predictions for 2014

We’re always trying to predict what the search engines and social networks are going to do next in order for our 3,000+ clients to stay ahead of the game. Here are our tips for 2014.

1. More emphasis on social signals. The curve started in 2013 and we feel that social signals are going to become progressively important during 2014. At the moment, the more likes / follows you have the better. What we’re starting to see are the quality of your likes / follows making a difference. A little bit like the evolution of back link quality we are now seeing this with like and follow quality.

2. Facebook’s slide? There are some early signs that Facebook maybe on the slide. Their user base under the age of 18 is declining. Maybe 2014 will be a year for a new social network to shine.

3. On-site content. Quality not quantity. Our feeling is that press releases are a waste of time unless you are press releasing for the right reason. If you really do have some news then a press release is great but the days of press releasing in order to build relevant backlinks are over. These are not being taken in to account as much by the search engines.

4. Conversational backlinks. The search engines what to rank sites higher that people are talking about. Therefore, links that are embedded in to forum / blog conversation are being treated as high quality and we’re seeing really good results when links are built in this way. It’s also very organic as long as the link is relevant to the conversation. This is now our rapid backlinks are built.

5. Discount based search engines. It may sound like a plug for connect but we do feel that discount based search engines, where the ranking is based on the level of discount and loyalty that a user shows to the community, will start to take off more in 2014. Why wouldn’t you search where you get the best deal first?

So, there our tips for 2014! Let’s see if we’re right.

From all the team at Click Submit, have a fantastic new year's eve and a profitable 2014!

317,174 likes and follows exchanged!

You may already be aware that we publish all of our system stats. We believe in transparency and therefore publish and refresh our site wide stats on a 24 hour basis.

Over the coming months we have decided to use the blog to go a little more in-depth on each of these stats, starting with the number of likes and follows exchanged via our like to follow system.

This statistic shows how many times our users (that are opted in to like to follow) have liked and followed each other via Twitter and Facebook. When we first started reporting these stats we were blown away. We knew that it was a popular system but had no idea how popular it had become.

Since launch our cients have exchanged over 317,000 likes and follows with over 1,000 now being exchanged everyday!

The key to its popularity is the way it's offered. You don't have to like and follow everyone. You choose to like and follow, or remove a site from the list. This means the system does not breach any of the rules set by Facebook / Twitter in the way you gain likes and follows. That means the likes and follows are highly regarded because they are from other vibrant socially active businesses and individuals, and the best bit...

Like to follow is included for free as part of our core SEO product.
